ALD4301APBL application field and working principleALD4301APBL (High Slew Rate Latching Dual Comparator) is a dual-channel comparator under the “Linear – Comparators” category. It is designed for applications that require high-speed decision making. Such applications include data acquisition, video signal processing, and interface communication.The ALD4301APBL features a wide supply voltage range (2.5V - 9V) and high input impedance (200 kΩ). It also includes an active-low push-pull output with a fast response time (~7ns) and an output current of up to 600 mA. The chip also integrates an adjustable hysteresis level and a low power-down mode. Furthermore, the ALD4301APBL is designed for operation with an operating temperature range between -40°C and 125°C.Working PrincipleThe ALD4301APBL family of dual comparators utilizes an open-collector output structure with an NPN transistor-based driver circuit. The Circuit is composed of two transistor-based toggling devices, each with a single input and an output connected to the chip’s VDD/GND pins. When the input logic level is above or below the working hysteresis level, the NPN transistor’s emitter port is used to produce a logic level in the output. This leads to the implementation of a latching comparator.This advanced open-collector circuit design provides an enhanced slew rate (300 µs/V) and faster output response time of 7ns. Moreover, the emitter follower circuit ensures minimal cross-over distortion if the input signal is repeated. Furthermore, the latch logic associated with the circuit makes it ideal for applications like data processing, where there is a need to capture two bits complements only once.Comparator Hysteresis AdjustmentThe ALD4301APBL contains an adjustable hysteresis, which allows for the control of the level of comparator output volatility. This is done by controlling the pin voltage of HYST (Hysterisis setting pin). Setting the voltage level at HYST to the rated value allows for an increase in hysteresis level difference, resulting in a higher input voltage threshold of the comparator.
