AN77L09 is a linear voltage regulator from Alpha and Omega Semiconductor. It is an easy to use, three pin regulator designed for simple and reliable operation for low power general purpose applications. The regulator can operate either in basic voltage regulation (constant voltage) mode or constant current mode depending upon the mode selected.

The AN77L09 includes a current-limiting circuit that helps to protect the regulator and its load from over-current and short circuit conditions, allowing the regulator to withstand up to a 10A fault current (in constant voltage mode). As an additional protection, the device has an internal thermal protection circuitry that limits the die temperature, effectively reducing its overall power dissipation.

The AN77L09 is a three terminal regulator that can generate adjustable output voltage levels with very good regulation performance. It operates at a maximum input/output voltage differential of 72V. The output voltage of the device is adjustable with an external resistor divider network, allowing the output voltage level to be varied between 0.9V to 20V.

The AN77L09 can provide output currents up to a maximum of 350mA, while still delivering a good load regulation. The device has a dropout voltage of 1.05V, which means that the device will start regulating the output voltage when the input voltage drops below the output voltage by 1.05V. The device also features a reverse leakage current that is less than 10 uA. This allows the device to be used as a barrier between high and low voltage circuits as well as between analogue and digital circuits.

The AN77L09 utilizes a low dropout regulator topology with a P-channel MOSFET in series with a standard pass element to provide low dropout performance. The regulator uses an internal MOSFET switch and an internal voltage divider network, which serve to reduce the linear voltage regulator dropout voltage and the heat generated due to the power dissipation by the device. The internal MOSFET switch and voltage divider network are also used to provide excellent line and load regulation over a wide range of conditions.

The AN77L09 is available in a 3-pin TO-220 package and is rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The device can be used with an external power supply, battery or a combination of both, depending upon the application needs.

Overall, the AN77L09 is a high efficiency, low power linear voltage regulator that is well suited for low voltage, low power applications. It provides very good line and load regulation and is easy to use, thanks to its three pin regulator design.
