The AN77L045M is a three-terminal Low Dropout (LDO) linear regulator designed for low-voltage, moderate current applications. It provides excellent transient response and low output noise and is ideal for low power, as well as some low-cost power solutions. The device is designed to meet the requirements of typical linear regulator applications such as battery-powered systems, PC motherboards, embedded systems, mobile phones, and handheld electronic devices. The AN77L045M has the advantage of offering low dropout voltage (maximum of 0.65V) and a low quiescent current. The AN77L045M is a standard three-terminal voltage regulator. It has three pins, IN (input), GND (ground), and OUT (output). The IN pin is connected to a voltage source, typically from a battery. The OUT pin is connected to the load, typically a switching or linear regulator of another IC. The GND pin is grounded. The integrated circuit has an internal comparison circuit and operating amplifier that controls the output voltage. The voltage regulator has an adjustable voltage reference, internal low dropout (LDO) comparator circuit and a PMOS pass transistor to provide the required regulation.
The comparison circuit has two reference voltages, one of which is an adjustable output voltage and the other coming from the internal reference. The two reference voltages are compared and the output voltage is selected from the potentiometer to keep the output voltage within a desired range. The LDO comparator circuit internally compares the sensed voltage at the output pin with the adjustable reference voltage. When the output voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the pass transistor is opened, causing current to flow from the input to the output, increasing the output voltage. Conversely, when the output voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the pass transistor is turned off, and current will stop flowing from the input to the output. The pass transistor is shut off, preventing the output voltage from exceeding the reference voltage.
