TVS - Diodes Topology-dependent Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVSs), also known as Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors, are semiconductor-based components used for protecting sensitive electronic circuits from high voltage transients or voltage spikes. TVS diodes are used to protect against multiple transient threats such as electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFTs), lightning, and high-energy pulsed radiation events. They are available in various packages and configurations such as unidirectional and bidirectional, and single and multichannel.The AQ4020-01FTG-C is a directed acyclic graph (DAG)-based bidirectional transient voltage suppressor protecting against surge voltages up to 1.4kV peak power. It has a fast response time of 1µs (10/1000µs depending on the rise time setting) to protect against electrostatic discharge, electrical fast transients, and other overvoltage transients. The AQ4020-01FTG-C can protect otherwise vulnerable inputs, outputs, and components from direct current to the highest peak surge current.The AQ4020-01FTG-C is often used in automotive circuit protection applications due to its low capacitance, fast response time, and high surge robustness (IPP). Its application field includes voltage clamping, such as 12V and 24V automotive input protection, ESD protection in keypads and microcontrollers, signal and data line protection in CAN/LIN networks, reverse polarity protection in automotive buses, and inrush current protection in high-load switching. The AQ4020-01FTG-C features a unique Topology-dependent Charging Voltage (TCV) and a internal rest discharge circuit to raise its breakdown voltage over the reverse diode\'s breakdown voltage during the initial charging pulse. This gives the AQ4020-01FTG-C the ability to hold transients even during a large power surge.The working principle of the AQ4020-01FTG-C is based on a DAG topology that contains both a forward and reverse diode. The forward diode acts to clamp and redirect the current away from sensitive components. In the reverse direction, the reverse diode provides additional protection by preventing high surge voltages from passing through the device. When the forward diode is activated, it begins to charge and requires more current to reach breakdown. This additional charging current is provided by the reverse diode, which keeps the forward diode from turning on until there is a surge current. The internal rest discharge circuit increases the breakdown voltage to ensure that the device can withstand transients over its rated current. The AQ4020-01FTG-C can protect against voltage transients up to 1.4kV peak. In addition, it also features low capacitance (1.0pF at 20V) and low leakage current (0.04µA at 20V) to ensure minimal loading on the system.Overall, the AQ4020-01FTG-C offers an effective protection solution for automotive circuit protection applications, as well as other electronic systems, with its fast response time, high surge robustness, low capacitance, and low leakage current.
