This device is capable of large read and write cycles with an overall long term durability that is unlike any other device of this type.OverviewThe AT24C256W-10SC is a high-end, Serial, EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory) device that offers the perfect combination of features in a single package. It features a wide operating voltage range of 1.8 to 5.5V, a 10-million-cycle write endurance that is up to 3.5 times higher than other EEPROMs, and can read and write data at transfer rates of up to 1 Mbps. Furthermore, the device is packaged in a small 8-pin SOIC package and is designed to be utilized on circuit boards where space is limited, making it ideal for embedded applications.Application FieldAT24C256W-10SC is specifically designed for use in applications such as Automotive, Industrial and Consumer markets. These applications contain data that is critical and not necessarily suited for flash NOR or other EEPROM implementations. Some of these applications may include:• Automotive dashboard calibrations• Printing systems• Industrial field controllers• Remote management• Medical data logging• Network settings• Factory automation• Security systems• DataloggersThe device also offers superior data retention and low-voltage performance for a wide range of temperatures, making it ideal for industrial environments.Working PrincipleAT24C256W-10SC is a simple serial interface device. Its internal architecture consists of two 256K-bit 8-bit nonvolatile memory arrays that are divided into 4 pages. The device supports a single selectable write-protect feature. In order to enable write-protect, the device should be first enabled in software mode. AT24C256W-10SC also features an optional CRC checksum to ensure data integrity between devices. This feature helps to detect and correct errors that may occur during data transmission. The device also supports a power-off data protection feature which allows the data to be retained for up to 25 years at room temperature. When the device is powered on, a power-on reset is activated and then the device will reset to the default settings. In order to read from or write to the device, it is necessary to enable the chip-select pin and enable the write-protect pin to enable the write mode. Furthermore, when writing data to the device, the device supports both sequential and random write modes. In order to reduce power consumption, the device also has a low-power standby mode which is activated by a unique command. This feature can be used to save power for certain applications.
