At91SAM7SE256-AU is a low-power microcontroller integrated with enhanced features. It is based on the ARM7TDMI-S processor core which is ideal for applications requiring high performance, low power consumption and extreme low cost implementations. The At91SAM7SE256-AU includes a 32-bit memory interface, multiple dual-mode input/output ports, an 8-bit timer/comparator, and a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter.
At91SAM7SE256-AU is one of the members of the Atmel AT91 ARM family. It offers a comprehensive set of integrated peripherals and bus interfaces, such as an 8-channel 10-bit A/D converter (ADC), three 16-bit timers/counting and four 8-bit pulse width modulators, UARTs, SPI, I2C, and many more. It also provides up to 32KB of internal RAM, 128KB of Flash memory and a 4KB of EEPROM memory.
At91SAM7SE256-AU is the ideal microcontroller for embedded applications. It is suitable for all kinds of embedded applications such as wireless communications, home automation and instrumentation control, automotive applications, consumer appliances and industrial automation. Its low power consumption also makes it suitable for battery-powered applications including medical electronics, security systems and portable device applications.
At91SAM7SE256-AU works on the principle of reduced instruction set computing (RISC). It utilizes a straightforward design, with registers rather than being dependent on memory. Instructions are encoded using just eight to twelve bits and each operation is accomplished in one 40MHz clock cycle. In addition, the AT91SAM7SE256-AU can perform several functions simultaneously, and supports a 32-bit ARM architecture, so it can be programmed for both 8-bit and 16-bit operations.
At91SAM7SE256-AU\'s architecture is based on a three-layered system design. The first layer consists of the ARM core, peripheral bus and memory system. The second layer consists of the peripheral registers and control logic while the third layer consists of the I/O, external bus and debug interface. This design architecture allows for optimization of power consumption and pin count, as well as providing a platform for low cost implementations in many areas like wireless communications and home automation.
At91SAM7SE256-AU also supports power saving modes such as Sleep, Deep Sleep and Cortex Sleep modes. In Sleep mode, the core is powered down and the peripherals remain functional, while in the Deep Sleep mode, all parts of the system are powered down. In Cortex Sleep mode, the ARM core can be powered down, but the peripherals remain functional in order to support low power consumption applications.
