The ATMEGA48-15MT1 offers a wide variety of peripherals and instruction set resources to meet the needs of many embedded applications. Some of these include a 10-bit A/D converter, two USARTs (Universal Synchronous/Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter), SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), LCD interface, Enhanced RTC, enhanced WDT, internal EEPROM, SRAM and flash.

The AVR Core in the ATMEGA48-15MT1 performs the following primary functions: fetching instructions, programming, interrupt handling, and power saving mode. When the ATMEGA48-15MT1 is operated in the power saving mode, it can switch between multiple operating modes: active, idle, and power-save. Depending on the specific application, the device can use either the idle or power-save modes to consume less power.

The AVR Core runs on an optimized instruction set that provides very fast execution speeds. It is programmed using the AVR Instruction Set Architecture (ISA).
