The ATmega88-20MU is a low-power, high-performance 8-bit microcontroller that has a wide range of applications. It has been developed to serve as a platform for applications such as automotive, home automation, healthcare and industrial control. The microcontroller is based on the AVR architecture and offers a number of on-chip peripherals for system and communication tasks.

The ATmega88-20Mu microcontroller is equipped with 8-bit AVR RISC architecture, in-system programmable Flash, EEPROM and SRAM, and a power-efficient clocked system with low power consumption. The microcontroller comes with four external interrupts and provides two 8-bit Timer/Counter with PWM, two 16-bit Timer/Counter with PWM and two 8-bit Timer/Counter. In addition, it is equipped with a 32 x 8-bit general purpose working registers, an 8-bit programmable USART, 6 x 8-bit A/D converters and a programmable 8-bit Input Capture.

The ATmega88-20MU microcontroller is also equipped with a UART module for simultaneous bidirectional communication between various components, such as Bluetooth, GPS, RS232 and USB. Interestingly, the on-chip UART supports seven different communication formats, such as Full Duplex, RS232, UART, IrDA, MS/SPI/Q Mode, Master/Slave Support, and Master/Slave Support of Multiple Flow Control Signals.

The ATmega88-20MU supports an on-chip debugging system that allows real-time debugging. The DebugWIRE interface allows a host PC to connect to the microcontroller and control its program flow, set breakpoints, trace program execution and pause the program. As a result, programming the microcontroller becomes much easier and efficient.

The ATmega88-20MU also comes with on-chip clock circuitry for generating low power clock sources, including a main clock and an internal RC oscillator. The oscillator accepts a wide range of clock frequencies, ranging from 32KHz to more than 20MHz. The clock synchronization allows for the development of various timing applications.

In addition, the ATmega88-20MU is typical and extremely useful with standalone application development. It has a wide voltage range, allowing the chip to be powered either by 8 – 18V DC voltage, or using an AC voltage of up to 25V.
