B43504A9476M87 aluminum electrolytic capacitor, like other aluminum electrolytic capacitors, is composed of two aluminum foils with a layer of anodic oxide film in between. The internal insulation of the capacitor is formed by a very thin oxide film which is formed on the surface of the aluminum anode by means of high temperature anodization. A separator, usually made of paper, is also used to separate the two layers of the aluminum foil, thus preventing the foil from short-circuiting. The anode electrode is connected to the positive end of the capacitor, and the cathode electrode is connected to the negative end of the capacitor.
The aluminum electrolytic capacitor relies on the electrolyte inside the capacitor to enable charge movement. The electrolyte serves as an electrical conductor charged with ions. When a voltage is applied across the capacitor, the positively-charged ions migrate to the negative electrode where they react and deposit on the oxide film. This is know as the charge stage.
