BC868 and BC115 are both NPN transistors. They are typically used for small signal, low power applications and for switching purposes. These transistors are usually located close to their power sources or to other components that require the device to operate optimally. The BC868 and BC115 have very similar electrical characteristics and can be used interchangeably. Typically, they are found in a wide range of consumer and automotive electronics, medical equipment and other industrial applications. They are primarily employed in analog, digital and mixed-signal circuitry, where low voltage and low power are desired. The large majority of BC868 and BC115 transistors offer a power supply voltage range of 2.5-17V. They have a maximum collector current of 150mA and a maximum power dissipation of 625mW. This makes them suitable for low power circuits and applications where power dissipation is not a major factor. The transistor’s working principle can be defined as a current-control device which exploits the electric field created when a current passes through a semiconductor material. The BC868 and BC115 both use a base-emitter diode to modulate the flow of current into the transistor’s collector, allowing for the device to be switched “on” and “off”. When current is present, the base-emitter diode is in the forward biased state and current will flow from the emitter to the base. As the base current increases, so does the collector current, resulting in amplification. The BC868 and BC115 are relatively easy to use and offer excellent performance. They have a wide temperature range of -55°C to 150°C and a wide power supply range of 2.5-17V. The large majority of these transistors are provided in the TO-92, a small hermetically sealed plastic package, which makes them ideal for applications where space is limited. They also typically have a low capacitance, making them very suitable for high frequency applications.
