BD4929G-TR Application Field and Working Principle

The BD4929G-TR is a series of Precision Microcontroller Supervisors and is part of a family of precision microcontrollers targeting precision microcontroller applications. The product provides comprehensive protection against multiple errors and other conditions which could potentially lead to device malfunction or unsafe operation.

The BD4929G-TR series are two channel designs with two distinct internal voltage rails. One voltage rail is dedicated to power input, while the other rail provides power output. The device has a low power consumption of 5μA in both stand-by and active state. It is offered in a small 10-pin MSOP-10 package, allowing for a minimal amount of board space. The device operates at a temperature range of -40 to 85°C.

The board has a precision voltage detector (PVD) which can detect a voltage variation of 0.40 V through its two internal voltage channels. It has two channel level setting pins, one to set the channel 1 voltage level and the other to set the channel 2 voltage level. When a voltage appears at either level, the PVD detects this voltage, triggering the REL procedure.

The RETURN signal pin, combined with the two OVROUT signals, creates a simple, yet effective, error message system. If the voltage drops below the defined voltage level, the Return signal is sent, alerting the user to the low supply voltage and then the OVROUT signal is sent, signaling that the supply is operating outside of the recommended range.

The BD4929G-TR combines both the protection and supervision functions into one device. It provides over-voltage protection and over-current protection for itself and the main supply. Over-voltage protection is enabled when the voltage on either of the two channels exceeds the defined upper limit. Over-current protection is enabled when the total current exceeds the set limit. Additionally, the device also provides software control in order to enable or disable the over-voltage and over-current protection.
