BD6586MUV-E2 is an LED Driver/Controller IC (Integrated Circuit) manufactured by ROHM Semiconductor. It provides LED lighting solutions to meet advanced LED applications, LED backlighting and LED lighting requirements. Being a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) integrated control device, BD6586MUV-E2 prevents electrolytic capacitors and chip components burned due to overheating caused by the shimmer effect of LED.

Application Field

BD6586MUV-E2 is suitable for applications such as illumination, LCD monitors and Notebook PCs, liquid crystal display (LCD) TV and general lighting, as well as a wide range of industrial applications. Its low operation current of 0.5µA enables a long battery run time and its low profile design, 0.85mm, is perfect for slim lighting designs. In addition, its high nMOS and pMOS transistors enable a wide dimming range (1:2000). The external components such as resistors, capacitors, FETs and Schottky diodes are not necessary due to its on-chip protection features.

Working Principle

BD6586MUV-E2 has two operation modes, one is pulse mode, which can drive two LEDs with an operating frequency up to 500kHz, and the other is PWM mode, which can drive two LEDs through PWM signal up to 3 MHz. It also has an adjustable output current (up to 1A) and is capable of constant current driving of two LEDs. Its output voltage can be adjusted from 0 to 18V with a range of 0.5V.

The BD6586MUV-E2 integrates a low loss nMOS and pMOS transistor for controlling the LED current. It also integrates several control circuits including a power switch and constant current generator for LED output current control. In addition, it has overvoltage protection, over temperature protection and short-circuit protection.
