Application Field
The BD8153EFV-E2 is ideal for system-level power applications where many power rails must be managed, protected, sequenced and monitored. It includes up to 11 low-phase power sequencers, 10 fault-handling circuits and 10 high-voltage protected DC-DC converters. With the BD8153EFV-E2, system design can be simplified by reducing the number of ICs present in the system and the IC footprint. It is a multi-part PMIC that offers an ideal package for reducing the space required for power management within a system.
The BD8153EFV-E2 enables 3.3V, 5V, 8V, 12V and 19V outputs, selecting from 6 possible operational voltage ranges. The device can be configured to provide four independent power rail outputs with maximum voltage of up to 19V. Like other BD8153EFV devices, the BD8153EFV-E2 meets the most stringent safety-critical requirements, such as Automotive AEC-Q100.
Working Principle
The BD8153EFV-E2 integrates an advanced parameterized power management algorithmic engine (PM_Algo_Engine) and internal regulators that provide optimized power control options. All the power rails managed by the BD8153EFV-E2 device can be controlled by the on-chip PM_Algo_Engine. This enables different power states and user-defined fault handling algorithms to be implemented.
The advanced fault handling ability of the BD8153EFV-E2 provides a safe operation for the system. The PM_Algo_Engine is designed to monitor the power rails and take corrective actions in case any of the power rails fails to transition in the expected time. It can also prevent an unintended rush-current by deactivating one of the power rails during the power-on sequence.
The BD8153EFV-E2 also offers the possibility of implementing an over-temperature monitoring system. This system allows the device to monitor the temperature of the system and take corrective actions when needed. This feature allows the BD8153EFV-E2 to provide protection against any over-temperature situation.
In addition, the BD8153EFV-E2 can be configured to provide a low power mode, reducing the overall power consumption. This mode reduces the power consumption of the device and provides better thermal performance.
