Introduction
BD9845FV-E2 is a low power, high performance, DC/DC switching controller with high efficiency ratings. Developed by ROHM Semiconductor, this power management integrated circuit (PMIC) offers users a wide range of control and protection features as well as operating flexibility.
Application Field and Working Principle
The BD9845FV-E2 DC/DC switching controller is suitable for general purpose power supply application. It utilizes constant frequency PWM control to regulate output voltage. It is ideal for a variety of applications, including charging for Li-Ion battery, powering automotive electronic equipment, AC-DC adapters, servers, and various other DC/DC converters.
The primary purpose of the BD9845FV-E2 is to control the output voltage of a voltage regulator by comparing the feedback voltage from the output with a reference voltage. It contains a voltage reference, error amplifier, current monitor, oscillator and other control circuitry. When the output voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the error amplifier sends a signal to the PWM controller. The PWM controller then sends an output signal to the gate drive circuit, turning on the switch and allowing current to flow through the output.
The oscillator section of BD9845FV-E2 generates the switching frequency, which is adjustable between 250 KHz and 1MHz. The frequency is adjusted by using a resistor, which is connected to the MT pin. With this feature, users can easily adjust the switching frequency without making changes to the board layout.
The BD9845FV-E2 also includes a current monitoring circuit. This circuit monitors the output current and can be used to set over-current protection. The overload signal is sent to the PWM controller, which then turns off the switch, reducing the output current.
In addition to the current monitor, the BD9845FV-E2 also includes an under-voltage lock out (UVLO) and an over-voltage protection (OVP) circuit. The UVLO prevents the switching controller from switching on until the input voltage is greater than the UVLO threshold. This ensures that the output voltage is stabilized before the switching controller is allowed to turn on. The OVP circuit monitors the output voltage and will turn off the switch if it exceeds the set limit.
The BD9845FV-E2 also has a thermal shutdown circuit. This circuit monitors the junction temperature of the IC and will turn off the switch if the temperature exceeds the set limit. Once the temperature has dropped below the set limit, the switch will be turned back on.
