Working Principle

The BMA150 accelerometer consists of a three-axis MEMS (Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems) sensing element and integrated signal processing ASIC. The MEMS sensing element is based on micro-machined plates and is the component which senses the acceleration. A regular vibration is applied to the plates in order to measure the motion. The ASIC alters the signal generated from the MEMS sensing element and then outputs data which can be used to interpret the motion of the device. The power consumption of the BMA150 can be as low as 0.9µA in low power mode, and 0.3mA in normal mode. The accelerometers use the I2C interface for data transfer, and measure accelerations in a range of ±2g. The typical noise of the accelerometer is 75µg RMS, the operating temperature is -20 to 85C and the linear acceleration range is 2g, 4g and 8g.
