Real Time Clocks (RTCs) are used for synchronizing time and generating interrupts or triggering events at specified moments in time. The BQ4850YMA-85 is a low-power, high-accuracy Li-Ion battery-powered or USB-powered RTC device with an integrated oscillator. It is an extremely precise clock device that keeps time with exceptional accuracy over an extended operating temperature range. As such, it is suitable for applications that require precise and reliable timekeeping, such as data logging, remote monitoring and data synchronization.

The BQ4850YMA-85 utilizes a novel time-keeping technology known as piezoelectric quartz crystal combined with dedicated hardware ICs that accurately convert electrical signals into time.
