Thyristors - TRIACsA TRIAC is a type of thyristor, and a type of current controlled switch. It stands for TRIode for Alternating Current, and it is used to control the flow of current. The BTA201-600E TRIAC is a three-terminal semiconductor switch designed for controlling AC load current up to 600A. The gate is a bipolar structure, with ohmic contacts to control the gates current, allowing it to respond to positive and negative gate pulses. When the gate is open and the voltage reaches a certain level, the device is triggered and switches on, allowing current to flow. The current then flows between two terminals and the gate is discharged until the voltage reaches the required trigger level again.
