BTB12-600CWRG Working Principle

The BTB12-600CWRG TRIAC is designed to quickly switch high-power AC current by application of a low voltage signal across the Gate terminal. When a low voltage signal is applied across the Gate terminal which is connected to the MT2 terminal, electrons flow from MT2 towards the gate and create an electric field. This electric field turns off the PN junction between the MT1 and MT2 terminals and current is allowed to flow from MT1 to MT2.

When the voltage on the gate terminal is removed, the device will turn off and the current will no longer be able to flow from MT1 to MT2. This operation is known as the Non-Zero Crossing Trigger mode of operation, in which the TRIAC will switch its state whenever a signal is applied to the gate terminal. This makes the TRIAC ideal for use in applications requiring fast switching of AC power.
