The BYV38-TAP is a single range of rectifiers specifically designed for high frequency switch mode power supplies. It comes with an enhanced capability to handle peak pulses due to its higher current and voltage rating and also provides a lower VF. The BYV38-TAP features an ideal combination of schottky diode and rectifier, providing superior surge capability, excellent power dissipation, a very low forward voltage and an ultra-fast turn on time.
The primary application area of BYV38-TAP is in low-power converters. This device is used as a switch-mode rectifier in many applications such as PC’s, faxes, and wireless devices as well as industrial and automotive converters.
The working principle of the BYV38-TAP is very straightforward. The device works in a common-anode configuration, wherein the positive side of the diode is connected to a positive voltage supply, while the negative side is connected to the rectifier. When the voltage at the cathode of the diode is higher than the anode of the rectifier, the current through the device will flow from the anode to the cathode of the diode. This current flow creates a voltage across the rectifier which will be lower than the source voltage. When the voltage at the cathode of the diode is lower than the anode of the rectifier current will flow from the anode to the cathode of the diode in the opposite direction. This current flow creates a voltage across the rectifier which will be higher than the source voltage.
