Ideal for applications where power dissipation is not a key factor, the BZG05C18-E3-TR devices feature a low reverse voltage of 18 volts (Vr) and a maximum forward voltage of 0.45 volts (Vf). With a maximum transient reverse power dissipation of 125 mW, the device has an operating temperature range of -65°C to +125°C, making it suitable for many commercial, industrial and automotive applications. For noise suppression, the device offers excellent frequency response, low noise, reverse leakage and low capacitance, making it a great choice for protecting sensitive analog circuits.
Working Principle
The BZG05C18-E3-TR Zener diode functions by allowing a small current to flow in the same direction of the incoming voltage, this small current is proportional to the applied voltage. The breakdown voltage (V) of the diode is determined by the physical characteristics of the particular diode and is stable over a wide temperature range. When the voltage is applied in the opposite direction, the current flow is reversed and is limited by internal resistance. This ensures that the device won’t be damaged or destroyed from large reverse currents.
The basic working principle of the BZG05C18-E3-TR Zener diode is that when a voltage is applied in one direction, the diode shows a low resistance and allows the current to flow through, which is proportional to the applied voltage. When the voltage is reversed, the diode offers a high resistance and limits the current flow, ensuring that the device won’t be damaged or destroyed from large reverse power.
Application Field
The BZG05C18-E3-TR Zener diode can be used in various applications such as signal conditioning, protection of sensitive components, suppression of noise pulses and overvoltages, and EMI/RFI filtering. This Zener diode can also be used in signal switch applications such as solid-state relays and electronic switches.
The diode also finds application in power supply circuits and voltage regulators, where it reduces the voltage surges from transients or large AC input, and may be used to suppress transients in portable devices, such as cell phones and other electronic devices. Additionally, the Zener diode can also be used in frequency oscillators where it functions as a negative temperature coefficient.
As the BZG05C18-E3-TR Zener diode has the ability to dissipate heat quickly, it can also be used in high frequency applications, especially in linear and switching power supplies.
