TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes or "spike suppressors" are commonly used in many electrical and electronic systems. They protect sensitive components such as integrated circuit chips and passive components by suppressing transients and help to reduce possibility of catastrophic device failure.

BZW04-58B A0G, one of the commonly used TVS diodes, provides excellent due protection for many industrial applications, and it is designed to protect sensitive components from high-voltage or high-energy transient surges. The BZW04-58B AOG also features 600 W peak pulse power dissipation, as well as 100 V peak reverse and 8.2 V operating voltage.

The working principle of TVS diodes is based on avalanche breakdown. When the reverse voltage of the device exceeds the breakdown voltage, the diode enters into the avalanche region and experiences avalanche breakdown, which in turn causes its breakdown voltage to decrease while its current increases. The avalanche diode is then able to absorb large amount of voltage and current, thus suppressing transient voltages. When the transient voltage is removed, the diode will return to its resting state.

BZW04-58B A0G is specifically designed for aerospace and industrial applications, and it is ideal for use in LCD and SMPS applications, for instance in motor control systems, electronic power supplies, LED lighting systems and microcontrollers. It can also be used in communication systems and equipment, such as routers, PDUs, SONET and Ethernet devices. The BZW04-58B A0G operates with fast response time of less than 150 ns, allowing it to effectively suppress high-energy transients such as electrostatic discharges (ESD) and electrical fast transients (EFT).

The BZW04-58B A0G is designed with high surge current rating and low leakage current of 1 uA max. It has excellent clamping capability and excellent electrical characteristics across a wide temperature range (-55 to +125°C). This allows for high reliability and long-term operation of the device without the need for frequent replacements.
