Working principle
The CAT24C02YI-GT3A is based on a Serial Peripheral Interface bus, consisting of 4 signal lines: SDA (Serial Data), SCL (Serial Clock), SCS (Chip Select) and VCC (Power supply). The SDA and SCL lines carry the data and clock signals, respectively. The SCS line is used to enable and disable the device. The VCC pin must be connected to a regulated power supply in order to provide proper supply voltage to the device.The CAT24C02YI-GT3A supports two different formats of data transmission protocol: 1) I2C bus protocol and 2) 3-Wire bus protocol. The I2C bus protocol is a two-wire serial communication system. It can connect up to 128 devices in a single network and is easily expandable. The 3-wire bus protocol is a three-wire serial communication system. It is slightly slower than the I2C bus and is usually used for lower pin count applications.The CAT24C02YI-GT3A has 1 Kbits (128 bytes) of addressable volatile memory. It is organized into 8 memory pages (page 0 to 7) with 16 bytes per page. Data can be written or read from any page. Writing of data is initiated by sending a write command followed by the page address and the data to be written. Similarly, reading of data is initiated by sending a read command followed by the page address.The CAT24C02YI-GT3A also supports a write-protect feature which prevents accidental or deliberate overwrite of the EEPROM memory. This is enabled by setting the special write-protect bit in the Write Protection Register.The CAT24C02YI-GT3A also provides several options for hardware protection, including twice +5V, NC (not connected) reset, WP (write-protect), /WP (not write-protect) and /CS (not chip select) pins.
