CAT4240AEVB Application Field and Working PrincipleThe CAT4240AEVB evaluation board is designed for evaluation and design of CAT4240A, a high performance charge pump constant current LED driver IC. Current sinking current rating is up to 350mA, and current source current rating up to 50mA . The board provides the customer with a complete design for the CAT4240A in a standalone format. It is designed for the application needs of driving a single LED from a single cell lithium coin battery.The CAT4240A provides a regulated current output for driving a single LED or multiple LEDs in series. The internal charge pump allows the device to drive LEDs with a wider range of input voltages. The internal oscillator operates at 2MHz, making it one of the fastest charge pump devices available.The CAT4240A has a fixed configuration and output current of 250mA. It can handle input voltage in the range of 2.6V to 5.5V and delivers an efficient power output at a 22V load voltage. The CAT4240A also has an integrated over-voltage protection and soft start feature to protect against damaging the LEDs.The CAT4240AEVB evaluation board contains two boards: the main board and the daughter board. The main board contains the CAT4240A and a user-adjustable trim pot for adjusting the LED output current . The daughter board is used to connect a LED and a power source for powering the LED.The main board provides a user-friendly DIP switch for selecting the input voltage range, allowing it to be used with battery voltages up to 5.5V. The user can adjust the output current of the CAT4240A using the trim pot on the main board. The trim pot also allows the user to tune the duty cycle of the LED, providing efficient illumination.In the evaluation board, the CAT4240A is configured for either PWM or analog control, allowing the user to choose the appropriate control scheme for their application. In the analog control mode, the user can adjust the output current in 4mA steps, up to a maximum of 350mA. The PWM mode allows for dynamic control of the LED brightness by varying the duty cycle.The CAT4240AEVB evaluation board provides a complete solution for driving a single LED from a battery voltage source.
