CD74HC221PWT is a type of logic integrated circuit that acts as a multivibrator. It is part of a family of high-speed CMOS Logic ICs whose outputs can be and have been used to trigger or reset intermediate stages in various applications.CD74HC221PWT has two solid-state devices, one in which the output is pin B and the other in which the output is pin A. Pin A is the output of an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7) and pin B is the output of an even number (2, 4, 6, 8). The multi-vibrator consists of two interconnected inverters with a capacitor connected between the two outputs. The circuit is triggered by a one-time positive pulse at the trigger pin. The output of the pin A will go high and the output of the pin B will remain low. Then after the pulse, the output of the pin B will go high while the output of the pin A will remain low.
The primary application of the CD74HC221PWT is to provide current-flow indication in low-power logic circuits. It can also be used as a delay generator and a simple memory device in various applications.
