CD74HCT4051M96 is an 8-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer which is capable of selecting one-of-eight channels. It was designed to be extremely flexible and adaptable for a wide variety of applications. This 8-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer specifically designed to operate with both TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) logic families. This chip is constructed in three parts: an analog multiplexer, an analog demultiplexer, and a control logic. The device is a general-purpose single pole octal switch suitable for use in analog or digital applications. It may be used as a digital-to-analog (D/A) converter or digital-to-analog multiplexer.
Application Field:
The CD74HCT4051M96 is mainly used in analog applications such as audio, video and instrumentation. It is also used as an analog-to-digital (A/D) multiplexer. Working Principle:
The CD74HCT4051M96 has three separate circuits which can be programmed through the enable inputs EN1, EN2, and EN3 for enabling each function. The first circuit is an analog multiplexer with three control inputs S0, S1, and S2 and eight input channels (I1-I8). The second is an analog demultiplexer with two control inputs D0 and D1 and eight outputs (O1-O8). The third circuit is a logic control circuitry which drives both the multiplexer and demultiplexer circuit, such as logic and output disable functions.
The multiplexer circuit is used to select one input from among eight to be routed to the output. Each input can be routed to each output. The demultiplexer circuit takes one input and routes it to one of eight output lines. Either the multiplexer or the demultiplexer can be enabled, depending on the data select code given to the device.
The control logic circuitry has logic inputs to control the multiplexer and demultiplexer. The logic inputs are the EN1, EN2, and EN3 pins. EN1 determines which function will be enabled, either multiplexer or demultiplexer. EN2 enables multiplexing or demultiplexing when enabled, whereas EN3 is used to enable or disable the device.
The voltage for this device can range from -0.5 V to +7 V. The power consumption of the device is very low and hence, it can be operated for long periods even when the system is in an idle state.
