.CM1220-04CP is a specialized TVS (transient voltage suppressor) diode that is designed for high-speed overvoltage circuit protection. It provides superior protection from voltage transients produced by ESD (electrostatic discharge), EMI (electromagnetic interference) and lightning events. The CM1220-04CP is a low-capacitance, multilayer diode array that provides superior performance in a variety of applications. It has an integrated ESD protection of ± 15kV (HBM), EMI protection up to 18GHz, and fast response time—all in a very small package. The device is capable of handling both static and transient overvoltages of up to 600W peak pulse power and up to -30V peak-to-peak voltage swings. Because of its fast response time, it is suitable for use in products that require fast protection from transient events such as those used in telecommunications, data communications and video/audio applications.
The working principle of CM1220-04CP is based on its multilayer diode array. The device has an integrated diode bridge circuit which uses two TVS diodes which are connected in parallel with each other and connected in series with a capacitor. During normal operation (no transient events) the capacitor is charged up to the voltage of the system and provides a damping effect in the event of a transient event, which prevents excessive current flow into the circuit. The diode bridge is designed to provide up to 600 Watts of peak pulse power and also provides ESD and EMI protection. The device is also equipped with a clamping circuit which limits the voltage swings to -30V which is helpful in limiting the noise and damage caused by ESD and EMI events.
