Common Mode Chokes are devices that are used to supress high frequency noise from entering and exiting an electrical circuit. The CMS2-9-R is one of the most effective Common Mode Chokes, designed to reduce conducted EMI in high speed signal applications. It can also be employed in industrial systems, consumer electronics, and home appliances.

The CMS2-9-R application field includes power distribution systems, industrial equipment, communications equipment, and signal processing circuits. The device consists of nine independent ferrites arranged in two parallel rows of double-ended chokes to provide two independent pathways of common mode noise suppression. The ferrites are protected through an aluminum case which serves to increase the EMI noise shield effect.

In terms of working principle, the CMS2-9-R utilizes three types of magnetic elements to effectively limit common-mode current. The combination of the individual chokes, together with the conductive aluminum shield, makes up the complete EMI suppression circuit.

First, the ferrites need to be connected in balanced pairs. Each pair of chokes is connected in series, with the ferrite cores running parallel to each other. The result is that the set can have both inductive and conductive effects on the circuit, providing additional attenuation of EMI in the frequency ranges.

Second, an integrated shield provides an additional layer of shielding between the ferrites and the circuit, which helps absorb stray EMI. The shield is connected between the two sets of cores, allowing it to act as a ground plane and absorb energy. This reduces the effectiveness of EMI in the circuit.

Finally, the double-ended nature of the CMS2-9-R ensures the effective suppression of both differential-mode and common-mode EMI. The differential-mode noise is attenuated by the alternating connection of the core pairs, while the common-mode noise is attenuated by the series-connected cores. By providing this dual attenuation, the device is able to effectively suppress a wide range of high-frequency noise.

The combination of multiple chokes and shielding makes the CMS2-9-R the ideal solution for noise suppression in many different applications. With its powerful performance and high reliability, the device is able to address a range of EMI problems, from consumer electronics to industrial systems.
