Thyristors - TRIACs

A TRiode for Alternating Current (TRIAC) is a three-terminal semiconductor device designed exclusively for controlling alternating current (AC) circuits. It mainly consists of a p-type and an n-type semiconductor material connected by a metal plate to form a junction. The three terminals are labelled as main terminal (MT), gate terminal (GT) and the other main terminal (MT\'), where MT is the first main terminal, usually MT and MT\' are tied together in many applications.

CQ220I-12M is a specially designed bidirectional TRIAC from Crysdale semiconductor with an integrated gate voltage protection circuit. It is constructed using high-performance silicon chips with a low turn-on and holding current. It is used in power control applications and is suitable for medium power applications. Working principle
