Thyristors are a category of semiconductor devices with three terminals, which are mainly used in industrial, commercial and residential applications. A Thyristor is a three-terminal switch made of multiple layers of semiconductor material. In some cases, two Thyristors are combined together to form a four-terminal switch called a TRIAC. One of the most common TRIACs used today is the CTA06-1200CW. Working Principle of CTA06-1200CW
For a Triac, the working principle is similar to that of a Thyristor, but with two additional terminals.
