CY3215-DK is an evaluation board which help users to program and evaluate Cypress’s CapSense and TrueTouch Controllers. This board was created to be used in conjunction with Cypress’s PSoC Creator development software and is targeted to detect CapSense touch techniques like Proximity, Slider, and Button touch. In CapSense, sensors are connected to the controller and control capacitance level changes. The controller is then able to calculate from the capacitance changed whether it is a finger or something else left hovering or placed in contact of sensors capturing. CY3215-DK is a low cost evaluation board that uses 32-bit ARM microcontrollers with high performance and low power applications.

Working Principle

The CY3215-DK evaluation board works by measuring the capacitance change due to the capacitance of the material (i.e. finger, hand, etc.). For finger sensing, the board slowly charges a capacitive sensing element with a predetermined charge. When an object touches the sensing surface, it causes the capacitance of the sensor to decrease by a measurable amount. The evaluation board, using 16-bit precision, measures this small change in capacitance and reports it to the user via the CapSense sensor controller.The increase in the capacitance is identified by the BYPASS signal. This can also cause the board to adjust the values and sensitivity of its capacitive sensing devices. This allows for greater accuracy and the user can adjust the sensitivities for different materials used in the board operation.
