DC147A-C evaluation boards are among the most widely used AC/DC and off-line SMPS applications and working principles. The product range offers a comprehensive solution for a variety of applications, such as detecting input voltage, solid-state control, and providing efficient and reliable power.
The power supply of the DC147A-C boards is made up of an AC power source connected to a convertor/regulator that provides a DC output voltage. The AC input voltage is then rectified and filtered into DC voltage, and then regulated internally or externally to provide the precise, accurate DC voltage with minimal output ripple.
The AC/DC SMPS evaluation board employs pulsed-width modulation (PWM), also referred to as chopper control, to maintain a steady output voltage and current. The AC/DC board acts as a switch to control the amount of current going through the inductor, with a control loop monitoring the DC output voltage and cycling the PWM switch turned on or off, so the inductor sees the current changing, causing the average voltage over the inductor to match the set voltage.
The switching waveform of a PWM based DC/DC converter looks like an alternating current (AC) waveform, with no DC ripple or component. The amount of average energy for each PWM cycle is determined by the amount of energy stored in the inductor. Higher energy, as seen in a larger inductor, creates a larger output. For lower energy output, the inductor is reduced.

Their output can be, and usually is, regulated output voltage and current with variable output voltage and current. To maintain the required output voltage, the output has to be regulated through active circuitry, like feedback loops, which is very efficient.
