DC1617A-A is a highly integrated evaluation board designed to provide marked improvement in the performance and durability of offline and DC/DC switch mode power supply (SMPS) circuits with high efficiency, low standby power and high isolation voltage of up to 3KV. This board incorporates an energy-saving microcontroller with on-line monitoring and control capabilities to assist with the design of low cost, reliable power supplies.

This board has a wide range of applications from 5V to 10V input voltage for both discrete and integrated SMPS circuits. It is suitable for evaluating customer product requirements, such as efficiency, output ripple, line regulation, load regulation, stability, transient response, thermal performance and EMI performance. Additionally, it can provide the required control signals for the switching regulators and supplemental DC/DC transformers. DC1617A-A is also compatible with Flexible AC/DC Supply prototypes, allowing for easy adaptation of parts and power supply types.

The board’s working principle is based on an advanced three-stage architecture encapsulated in an advanced PWM controller. This high efficiency system maintains precise control of the power stages in order to achieve the highest possible efficiency and power savings. The PWM controller is responsible for generating the high frequency switching waveforms necessary to provide continuous adjustable output power and excellent dynamic response to transient loads. Additionally, the board features integrated circuitry with protection functions that guard against over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, and AC power over-voltage conditions.

The board’s scalable design is suitable for use in both linear and switch mode power supplies. The flexible nature of the power supply is accomplished through the use of a variable frequency clock that can supply switching frequencies up to 150 KHz, allowing for higher current output and improved efficiency. Additionally, the power supply can be used in multiple input configurations to accommodate various voltage ranges and can be configured for either VIN or VOUT operation.
