The DC1669B is a low-power evaluation board designed by Texas Instruments for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) switching power supply (SMPS) applications. It allows circuit designers to thoroughly evaluate both the electrical parameters of the TPS5430/6/9 power converters with integrated low dropout (LDO) linear regulators.
The evaluation board comes with an array of features. To name a few, the board features an adjustable frequency (FS); programmable current limit with 4 selectable steps (ILTON); synchronization capability—user set (Synchronize); open loop stability feedback which auto-adjusts the power switch On-Time period (TAPP); user-selectable soft start times (Soft -Start); programmable VDDS current limit (ILIM); current source feedback systems which are closely enclosed components to reduce noise (CS); open loop stability integration that auto adjusts the power-switch On-Time (TINT); Pulse-by-Pulse current limit with user-set limits (ILTON-PD); user-selectable synchronize-frequency levels & both synchronous & asynchronous applications (Sync); phase compensation for the volt controller with rising VSENSE and falling ILIM (COMP); adjustable frequency (FS).
The DC1669B board works according to the TNPS5430/6/9 power converter and integrated LDO linear regulator. The TPS5430 series of power converters is a high-voltage, low-power, synchronous, step-down switching regulator that can operate with input voltage from 4V to 32V. Its internal control circuitry permits switching up to 3A output current, over a wide input voltage range and with excellent load regulation. The integrated low dropout regulator ensures that the output can be regulated even at very low input voltages. The response of the converter is optimized for low ripple & noise characteristics and the switching frequency can be programmed from 100kHz to 1.5MHz.
In order to realize the full performance of the TPS5430, the evaluation board is set up in two stages. First, a precision current limit IC is programmed to set up the limit current to the lower boundary (pre-programmed) of the IC. Second, the output of the IC is supplied to the power converter which sets up the current limit according to the programmed value. To further optimize the board performance, the user can design a compensation network with a resistor and capacitor combination, to improve the control loop stability. The value of the resistor and capacitor in the compensation network can be conveniently adjusted through the current limit and frequency parameters of the IC.
The DC1669B evaluation board offers all the features necessary to quickly and easily evaluate the TPS5430/6/9 power converters. In addition, the evaluation board also includes several control pins to fine tune the converter\'s performance. The ability to quickly & conveniently evaluate the performance of the TPS5430/6/9 power converters is made easier by the DC1669B evaluation board from Texas Instruments.
