The DC1703A-D Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) Evaluation Board demonstrates a proven design platform for various Analog Devices low-power, low-noise, precision, 12-bit, direct-digital-synthesis, Sigma-Delta Digital to Analog converters (DACs). Its operational performance is suitable for applications such as general digital filtering, automatic test equipment (ATE), switching systems, RF signal generation and high-speed communication systems.The DC1703A-D Board features high performance, low-power, low noise and precision, 12-bit, direct-digital-synthesis (DDS) Sigma-Delta DACs. It is designed to demonstrate the performance of these digital to analog converters for a variety of applications. It provides a low-power, surface mount design with precision, wide dynamic range operation which is ideal for single-supply operation and operation in environments with limited power and/or space.The DC1703A-D Board has a wide dynamic range, up to 25dB SNR and wideband detection capabilities with a -108dB THD+N. It features onboard digital to analog conversion and dc to dc conversion. The onboard signal conditioning, temperature monitoring and buffering minimizes external circuitry requirements by incorporating many of the features needed for most application in the evaluation board.The DC1703A-D board’s onboard power sources include VREF (2.5V, 5.0V, 10V, 15V and 20V), VDD (3.3V, 5V and 9V) and VBIAS (2.7V, 5V and 12V). The board’s I/O includes a standard JTAG header for connection to a debug board, an analog output header for signal capturing and four differential analog inputs with user selectable impedance.The operating principle of the DC1703A-D evaluation board is based on a 12-bit DDS Sigma-Delta DAC. The inputs into the DAC are digital pulses that are modulated by the analog input signals. The output of the DAC is then further filtered using several stages of low pass filters and buffer amplifiers. The output of the filter and buffer is the analog output waveform that is used in many applications.The DC1703A-D board is capable of delivering dynamic range and linearity performance up to 8-bit resolution. The board has an onboard SPI interface that allows for programming of the DAC registers and digitization of the output waveforms.
