The DC2143A-A Evaluation Board from Texas Instruments is designed for design engineers to quickly evaluate its wide variety of AC/DC and DC/DC switch mode power supplies (SMPS). The evaluation board allows the user to quickly select various power settings, from 1.5W to 60W, and evaluate the key parameters on-board. The board is suitable for development and detail parameter analysis of all non-isolated and isolated SMPS.
The DC2143A-A Evaluation Board is a multi-output SMPS or also known an off-line SMPS. The power stage uses a combination of power switches, control stage and feedback sections to achieve a stable DC output without an external control signal. The output configuration (single, dual, triple) and the choice of available current ranges depend on the type and control of the output stages. The board is ideal for testing and evaluating a wide variety of AC/DC and DC/DC based switch mode power supplies.
The design behind the DC2143A-A Evaluation Board begins with the selection of variable input voltage supply which is connected to the PCBs input terminals. The voltage is then rectified and filtered before being fed to the transformer. The transformer is responsible for providing regulated high and low voltage supplies to the logic stage ICs. These supplies are then integrated with other components to provide the control mechanism for the power switches. The control circuit serves as the foundation for the efficiency optimization.
The power devices consist of two switches which are controlled by the logic circuit. The pair of switches is used to switch the primary side of the transformer. This allows the transformer\'s primary winding ratio be determined depending on the load requirements. After the DC output is formed by the transformer, the output is then passed through the diode network of the output stage.
The DC2143A-A Evaluation Board is equipped with a Comprehensive feature set allowing evaluation of various AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies. The board can be used in environments requiring up to 250VDC. Key parameters of the power supply such as current limit, short-circuit protection, overload protection, and output over or under voltage protection can be monitored on-board. The on-board display also enables quick parameter monitoring and adjustment without the need for a laptop.
In addition, the board\'s control stage also includes many parameters that can be set and monitored. This includes peak current, peak voltage, switching frequency, input and output voltages, and other power supply parameters like on/off times and slew rates.
