The DC2194A is a wide-bandwidth, low-noise AC- and DC-input, high-efficiency evaluation board from California Micro Devices. It is designed to evaluate high-efficiency, low-noise power conversion, energy harvesting, and other system solutions. This evaluation board is used to facilitate the evaluation of a wide variety of devices such as AC-DC converters, DC-DC converters, power modulators, and energy harvesting devices.
The evaluation board is built around the CM16500AC controller and is designed to operate in an input voltage range of 9 to 24 VDC or 46 to 72 VAC single-phase. The board is capable of a maximum output power of up to 200 W, with an output voltage range of 0.6 to 50 VDC, and an efficiency of up to 97%. The board also offers a wide range of features such as programmable current and voltage monitoring, over-temperature protection, and over-voltage/under-voltage protection.
The DC2194A evaluation board is mainly used for designing and testing of off-line (DC-input and/or AC-input) switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), such as flyback, forward, boost, buck, or other types. By utilizing this evaluation board, users can quickly and accurately design and evaluate new designs, evaluate a wide array of CM16500AC-based products, and optimize a design’s power usage efficiency and reliability. It allows users to assess the dynamic performance of the converter under different load conditions in real-time.
The operating principle of the DC2194A board is based on a CMOS-based CM16500AC controller IC. The IC uses an integrated Power MOSFET (the gate alignment to drain, drain-to-source, and gate-to-source capacitive parameters) to produce a high power density and low EMI switching power supply solution. The integrated power MOSFET provides protection from short-circuit, over-voltage, under-voltage, under-current, and over-temperature conditions.
The controller IC contains small, discrete, inductor-based current controllers. These current controllers sense the inductor current and the output voltage to produce an error signal, which is then applied to the power MOSFET switch to regulate the output voltage. The controller IC also features a comprehensive set of standby and protection functions. When power is removed or the output voltage exceeds the maximum allowable limit, the MOSFET switch is shut off, thus protecting the load from over-current.
The DC2194A evaluation board can be used in a wide range of applications, including but not limited to, AC-DC adapters, high-efficiency linear and switch-mode power supplies, and energy harvesting systems. The flexibility of the board allows users to quickly evaluate a variety of new products in existing designs or create entirely new designs with localized testing and rapid prototyping.
The DC2194A evaluation board greatly simplifies the evaluation and design of off-line (DC-input and/or AC-input) switched-mode power supplies (SMPS).
