DC2721A-B is an evaluation board manufactured by Texas Instruments and designed to evaluate different high voltage DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supplies). The board enables the performance testing of an SMPS in a easy, faster, and efficient manner. It helps speed up the testing and development of power holds, faster and better design of SMPS, and for low cost evaluation of the output power from the SMPS.
DC2721A-B board has two separate circuits. It provides the ability to vary the input voltage (AC or DC) from 9V – 44V in AC mode and 0 – 75V in DC mode. The output voltage range of the board (Vout) can be adjusted from 0V to the same as the input voltage. The range of output current can be set between 0.5A – 1A. The output power obtained from the board is (Pout) where Pout = Vout * Iout. The board has two separate control schemes for both AC and DC applications, which enable independent operation and testing.
DC2721A-B evaluation board comes with two main operating schemes, namely buck and boost converter. The buck converter is a non-inverting buck converter where the input voltage (Vin) is greater than the output voltage (Vout). The converter has a high efficiency and also minimizes noise. The boost converter is an inversion buck converter where the buck converter operates, but in the reverse direction, and the output voltage (Vout) is greater than the input voltage (Vin). This type of operation increases the efficiency of the converter, since the output voltage can be increased without any additional power loss.
DC2721A-B is also equipped with an adjustable current limiting feature. The feature can be used to provide a current limit of up to 2A on the output. This feature enables the user to regulate the amount of current supplied to the system independent of the output voltage.
