The DEMOBOARD TLE 6389-2 GV50 is an evaluation board designed for DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications. It is an integrated solution, combining power management components with intelligent safety functions in a single package.
The core components of the TLE 6389-2 GV50 are two PowerFlex power switch controllers, the TLE 6389 and the TLE 6389-2. These pieces together form the TLE 6389-2 GV50 AC/DC (off-line) SMPS subsystem, enabling efficient power conversion and essential safety features.
This Tle 6389-2 GV50 evaluation board provides system designers with a single solution for multiple power supply topologies in DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications. The board supports buck (step-down), boost (flyback) and forward (flyback) topology, as well as its combined variants, with a wide range of operating frequencies and output voltages.
The TLE 6389-2 GV50 works by controlling two power switch controllers which externally drive two separate synchronous switching circuits. The integrated protection circuits on the TLE 6389 and the TLE 6389-2 protect both the power system and the peripheral devices. The device includes built-in self-test and over voltage protection (OV/UV) circuits, allowing users to achieve a much higher level of product safety.
Using the two controllers, the TLE 6389-2 GV50 can be configured for both buck and boost switching topologies, as well as forward operations with low on-state resistance. The integrated safety features include the short protection circuit, over current-protection (OCP) and junction temperature protection (JTEMP) for both controllers. The TLE 6389-2 GV50 also offers adjustable switching frequency, allowing it to be used in a range of DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications.
Compared to traditional power conversion solutions, the TLE 6389-2 GV50 provides a significant power-efficiency improvement. This advantage is mainly achieved through the integrated synchronous switches in the device, which do not require additional compensation circuits, resulting in lower system cost and improved performance.
To simplify system design, the TLE 6389-2 GV50 comes with an integrated graphical user interface (GUI).
