DG403C/D is an analog switch IC which usually consists of four channels. Each channel comprises of two N-Type MOSFET transistors. Both the FET transistors act as a single pole, double throw (SPDT) switch.
The DG403C/D switching application fields are a wide variety including voltage and current sensing, battery and solar panels, analog level shifting, sample and holds, and general switching and switching arrays. It also finds applications in audio and video signal routing, switch matrixes and sample and holds for switched capacitor filters, due to its low on resistance.
Its working principle is based on CMOS, Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor. In a MOSFET switch, the gate and the source electrode control the flow of electric current between the drain and source electrode. When the gate of MOSFET receives a positive voltage, electrons will move from source to drain and the flow of electric current between both electrodes will initiate. On the other hand, when the gate of MOSFET receives a 0V or ground voltage, the electrons will flow from drain to source and the flow of electric current between both electrodes will stop.
Furthermore, DG403C/D also features very low on resistance (RDS(on) max) of 2.5 ohms. This extremely low on resistance makes DG403C/D suitable for low voltage applications. RDS(on) is the resistance due to the MOSFET when it is in on state, i.e. when the gate is supplied with a positive voltage. The low on resistance helps reduce the voltage drop across the switch and the power dissipation across it.
Also, DG403C/D can handle input voltages from 2V to 36V. This wide range of input voltage makes DG403C/D suitable for almost all switching application. The wide input range can be broken down into two ranges - low voltage range (2V - 12V) and high voltage range (10V - 36V). Depending on the voltage range requirement, the user can select the parts of the DG403C/D which suits the application.
