DG4157DL-T1-E3 is an integrated circuit with Analog Switches, Multiplexers and Demultiplexers components, composed by a serial then a parallel peripheral interface (SPI/I2C). It is a type of integrated chip equipped with sixteen passive switches, eight single-pole single-throw (SPST) analog switches, and eight single-pole double-throw (SPDT) analog switches.

This chip features integrated non-volatile memory embedded into it, which would store the last analog switch settings up to six hundred (600) milliseconds after powering-off. It provides a low minimum on-resistance over wide signal range. The DG4157DL-T1-E3 also features a low power consumption and small package size, both of which are suitable for portable and handheld applications.

Using the serial-parallel peripheral interface (SPI/I2C) of the DG4157DL-T1-E3, the user can control the analog switches from either an MCU or a Computer. It is also possible to configure the settings to the Memory via an analog programming pin. Furthermore, the analog switch can be reset to its initial state, independent from the settings stored in the memory.

The application field of the DG4157DL-T1-E3 includes medical, automotive, industrial and consumer applications. In medical applications, the sixteen switched can be used to connect and disconnect the different cell electrodes in a pacemaker or to connect and disconnect the drug delivery ports in a cancer treatment device. In automotive, it can be used to configure and route sensor signals, or to switch between different power sources. In industrial systems, it can provide several benefits such as integrety in communications, higher reliability and reduced size of system as well as improved noise immunity, and power consumption mgt.

The working principle of the DG4157DL-T1-E3 revolves around the analog switch component, which is a solid state component, switches low usually to voltages and current, using electrodes. When voltage is applied to certain electrodes, the electrons present in the electrode combine to change their configuration. With the changing configuration, the resistance of the analog switch changes and either changes the signal from high to low or from low to high.

Furthermore, depending on the control logic applied, the sixteen switches on the chip can be individually turned on and off, or in various combinations, in order to route different signals. And with the low power consumption and small package size, the DG4157DL-T1-E3 is suitable for a variety of portable and handheld applications where the power and the size of the system are of concern.
