Interface - Analog Switches, Multiplexers, Demultiplexers
Analog switches, multiplexers and demultiplexers are interfacing components used in many electronic systems. They are respectively responsible for the selective transmission, sorting and distribution of data between two elements of a system. One example of such an analog switch is the DG459DJ, which is specifically designed as a single channel, low power, low-voltage range switching application.
DG459DJ Application Field
The DG459DJ is basically used as a signal switcher in low power, low-voltage range applications. DG459DJ Working Principle
The DG459DJ is designed with a two-terminal Form A and Form C switching architecture. This means it is suitable for both momentary and latching switching processes. The latching process of the DG459DJ is powered by the momentary switching S1 and S2 inputs and these are the main interfacing points of this analog switch.
S1 and S2 inputs determine the switching process and enable the transmission, sorting and distribution of data via the DG459DJ switcher. The switcher also has a number of other inputs, such as the Vcontrol pin, which is responsible for the control of the switching process, and the Enable pin, which electrically selects the switcher of or on.
When the Enable pin is high, the DG459DJ is in the off state, meaning that it is closed for the transmission, sorting and distribution of data. While in this state, all the other input pins (S1, S2 and Vcontrol) are inactive and do not affect the switching process.
When the Enable pin goes low, the switcher is turned on and the other input pins become active. At this point, S1, S2 and Vcontrol inputs can be used to control the direction of signal flow within the switching circuit. Depending on the operating state of the S1 and S2 inputs, the DG459DJ can be used for both momentary and latching switching operations.
For the momentary switching, either one of the two S leads are activated, while the other one is connected to the ground. This results in an input voltage being present at the DG459DJ switch, allowing the data to be transmitted, sorted and distributed via the switcher. On the other hand, the latching switching occurs when both the S1 and S2 leads are activated and an input voltage is provided.
In summary, the DG459DJ is a low power and low-voltage analog switch designed for the purpose of signal switching.
