Film Capacitors refer to a group of capacitors which use a non-metallic layer of material - such as polypropylene, polyester, or paper - sandwiched between two layers of metallic material - usually aluminum foil - as the dielectric. The metal layers act as electrical conductors and the non-metallic layer acts as a separator, thus forming a capacitor.The DME2P27K series of film capacitors is specially designed for DC-link applications such as motor drives, welding and switching power supplies. Featuring a low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistor) which limits the power losses, the DME2P27K has become a popular choice for motorized and automated applications.The DME2P27K features a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) on the base, which enables the device to be securely mounted to a printed circuit board (PCB) or other surface. In addition, the device has an integrated stud connector for strain relief and a wide range of temperature ratings and capacitance ratings, ensuring that it is suitable for a variety of applications.The working principle of the DME2P27K is the same as any other type of capacitor. When an alternating voltage is applied to the capacitor, the capacitor will attempt to store the energy of the applied voltage. The capacitor will create an electrical field between its two metal layers and the non-metallic layer, allowing it to store energy.The stored energy allows the capacitor to act as a filter and reduce noise in circuits and to provide guidance to current in motors, which is very helpful in high speed applications such as power supplies and welding.Another advantage of the DME2P27K series of film capacitors is their resistance to heat. High temperatures can cause an increase in capacitance and therefore reduce the accuracy of the filter, however the DME2P27K maintains a temperature coefficient of ≤ 0.15%/°C. This ensures that the device can be used in high temperature applications without any concerns.The DME2P27K series of film capacitors is a great choice for DC-link applications, as its low ESR and wide temperature and capacitance ratings make it suitable for a variety of applications.
