The DP83640TVV device is a high-performance Physical Coding Sublayer (PCS) transceiver designed to support 10/100/1000BASE-T applications. It performs all of the physical layer functions for both Media Access Control (MAC) Layer and interconnect systems. It interfaces directly with the MAC layer through a simplified four-wire interface.

The DP83640TVV includes an internal Test Pattern Generator (TPG) and Test Pattern Checker (TPC) processor to support both self-testing and remote loopback operation. Furthermore, it contains an integrated low jitter, low power PLL to generate the reference clock required for the PCS layer. The device also contains an integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T de-emphasis and pre-emphasis network required by the IEEE802.3 Reduced Gigabit Media Independent Interface (RGMII) specification. The DP83640TVV supports operation up to 1.25Gbps.

The DP83640TVV supports both Full Duplex and Half Duplex 10/100/1000BASE-T operations.
