The evaluation and demonstration boards and kits play an important role providing wide application fields and varied working principles for DRV8412DDWEVM, an open-loop, sensorless and system-on-a-chip (SoC) DC motor driver to meet the need of high performance, variable speed electric motor control applications.DRV8412DDWEVM Motor Driver is a three-phase inverter motor driver, owns built-in protection circuitry, and supports 6-step/position and Field Oriented Control (FOC). This component implants in the 20 Ld VQFN package and features ultra-low RDS(on) MOSFETs provides up to 6A peak motor current and operating to 6V to 36V DC input voltage range.The evaluation board uses the DRV8412DDWEVM motor driver to provide a platform for experimentation and exploring the capabilities of the DRV8412DDWEVM solution. With this platform, integrators can get familiarized with the features of the DRV8412DDWEVM, debug algorithms, execute system evaluation, and explore control options. The board contains integrated pull-up passives for all control signals along with a two-shunt Torque/Speed/Position solution from Infineon. Additionally, the kit provides various debug and experiment options for the DRV8412DDWEVM motor driver and related sensing ICs. It consists of TRENCHSTOP 5 IGBTs, power module with integrated heatsink, and discrete components.The basic application of DRV8412DDWEVM can be explained as follow. When DRV8412DDWEVM and its motor is connected to a DC power supply, control signals Pin 6 to Pin 10 will allow for three-phase implementation and enable operation of DC motor. Each of hall sensors has a separate connection to pin 16 to pin 19 respectively. The PWM signals are connected to Pin 13 and Pin 14. The voltage reference related to device supply are connected to Pin 7. Lastly, the input power supply connects to the GND and VIN pins, which are connected to the DC power supply rail.The evaluation board and kit contains a core circuitry designed for a motor drive system for testing 6-step/position control, speed control and sensored FOC. Its system-in-a-chip (SOC) solutions for electric motor control require the combination of dedicated software routines and a control system based on MOSFETs or IGBTs for sinusoidal commutation. The platform provided by the evaluation board and kit allow evaluators to experiment the DRV8412DDWEVM solution in various control systems such as Speed and Torque control, speed variation and current limit, sensorless FOC controls, and 6-step control. The board contains an Infineon shaft sensor which helps to provide torque and speed information to FOC. The board also has Jumper J14 and J15, along with the optional power module containing the MOSFETs, help to regulate the voltage reaching the IC. This level of regulation is important to maintain a safe working environment for the DRV8412DDWEVM circuit. The direction and control of the motor driver is done with the help of switches S4 and S5 along with PWM selection switches S7 and S8. Moreover, the board also provides various options for debugging the code developed for the motor drive system. Special headers on the board allows for real-time verification and monitoring of power module waveform, Torque τ and Speed ω. The board also provides access to Enable/Disable-signal which can be monitored using special header U1. Overall, the DRV8412DDWEVM evaluation board and kit provides a high performance solution for motor control applications. It utilizes the built-in protection circuitry of the DRV8412DDWEVM IC to prevent overheating, undervoltage lockout and short-circuit protection.
