DRV8711EVM Working Principle

The DRV8711EVM board works based on the principles of a three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor. In BLDC motors, the voltage is applied to three phases - A, B and C, out of which one phase is constant and the other two phases are alternated. This alternating effect produces a rotational force on the motor shaft, moving the motor shaft and hence rotary motion is generated. The DRV8711EVM board utilizes the PWM generation capability of the DRV8711 motor driver to generate a three-phase PWM waveform which is applied to the three phases of the motor. The PWM generated by the DRV8711 motor driver is based on the index input. When the index input is driven high, the PWM of the particular phase is switched ‘on’ and when the index input is driven low, the PWM of the particular phase is switched ‘off’.
