The DRV8432EVM is a complete evaluation and demonstration board used for driving and controlling low voltage stepper motors. This board’s integrated circuit (IC) component is the DRV8432, a low RDS(on) stepper motor driver IC that allows the user to drive up to two stepper motors with up to 32 microsteps per step in either direction. This microcontroller serves as the main driver of the DRV8432EVM board and is programmed, in part, through a serial communication interface such as SPI. In addition, it can be used to monitor the status of the motor with its data reporting bits, and also can sense temperature from the thermistor on selected motor drivers. Utilizing the integrated logic level translator on board, the microcontroller can control the DRV8432 register settings, which sets the parameters for the motor current, PWM frequency and bridge enable.

The DRV8432EVM is released as an assembled ready-to-use board calibrated with reference current settings. A user may connect the board to the system power supply, and then read the appropriate settings for the motor configuration from the board’s datasheet. Users also have the option to adjust the parameters through the SPI interface. Furthermore, the board integrates a DRV8303 gate driver, which allows for up to three phases of control.

The DRV8432EVM is a fully featured evaluation board for controlling stepper motors. It utilizes a low power, low cost, and easy to configure DRV8432 integrated circuit.
