The DRV8806PWP is a dual-channel pre-driver designed to confidently support the operation of high power brushed DC motors. By utilizing proprietary HVIC and latch immune CMOS technologies, it provides a low components count, and compact solution for implementing DC motor pre-driver applications.

DRV8806PWP’s integrated power MOSFETS can drive bi-directional DC motors with a maximum continuous load of 6A. The device includes an adjustable current limit that can provide an over-current protection of 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A. Moreover, it includes a gate drive voltage for the external power MOSFETs and a supply voltage for the logic part of the circuit.

Application fields of DRV8806PWP consist of industrial, consumer, automotive and automotive start-stop applications motors. Among indicated industrial applications are adjustable pumps, food processors, blenders, robotic machines and many others. In consumer equipment motor drivers are found in massage chairs, robotic vacuum cleaners, garden tools, and 3D printers. Automotive and automotive start-stop motor applications include sunroof control, seat adjusters, wipers, cooling fans, hood latches, window regulators, and speed-actuated air/fuel control, etc.

The DRV8806PWP contains integrated current sense circuitry in order to detect and regulate the output current of the power FETs. This sense circuitry feedbacks the voltage of the large current shunt resistor through the MOSFETs, which is sampled by the integrated amplifier. After that the signal is integrated for a period determined by the internal loop filter capacitor and finally is compared to a predetermined level settled by the external current limit resistor, RFS.

The DRV8806PWP provides a protected gate driving voltage (V_DRV_PWR) that, together with the logic operating voltage (V_LOGIC), is supplied by an external power supply circuit. This voltage can reach up to 16V and is fed to both channels of the device through their common ground circuitry. The logic operating voltage is connected to the drivers which control motor movement.
