DS1086LU-222+ is a member of Dallas Semiconductor\'s DS1000LU family of devices, the first low power family of self-contained programmable clock generators specifically designed for personal computer motherboards, network cards and telecom applications. This device uses innovative technology to deliver outstanding performance and features that, when coupled with a minimum of external components, dramatically reduce their customers\' clock solution costs.

A DS1086LU-222+ Clock Generator provides a low-cost and easy-to-use solution for clocking tasks like clock synthesizers, frequency multipliers, and phase-locked loop (PLL) applications. Additionally, these devices feature very low power consumption and can be used to reduce the power dissipation of the system.

The Clock Generator offers selectable performance and features with the use of spread spectrum technology, eliminating the need for multiple clock generators in order to integrate different system clocks. It also integrates crystal oscillators into the design which reduces power requirements by eliminating the need for an external oscillator. When compared to other clock generators, the DS1086LU-222+ reduces power requirements by an astounding 60%.

The DS1086LU-222+ Clock Generator operates from a 3.3 V or 5 V voltage supply and provide programmable output frequencies up to 200 MHz. The device supports either a single-ended or differential clock output signal. The output signal can be configured as LVCMOS, SSTL, and LVTTL signal types. It also offers a programmable output drive strength in order to match signal conditions of the system.

The on-board PLLs of the Clock Generator allow users to select input frequencies up to 50MHz, while allowing the output frequencies to range from 50KHz to 200MHz. The PLLs provide programmable divide and multiplication operations that allow the output frequencies to range up to 200MHz and provide wide margins for different output frequencies. Additionally, the PLLs allow for rapid frequency multiplication processes as well as providingprogrammability for the device.

The frequency synthesis operation of the PLLs also allows for improved accuracy of the output frequency which can reduce the clock jitter. This improved accuracy is beneficial for PC applications as it can help to reduce system timing errors. Furthermore, the frequency synthesizer adds flexibility to the system as the output frequency can be adjusted to the output frequency requirements of the system.

The Clock Generator can be used for a wide range of applications such as controlling the clock speed of processor cores, clock distribution, system resets, and gate arrays. The Clock Generator also supports devices used in USB peripheral devices.The Clock Generator also includes temperature compensation circuitry as well as an on-die voltage regulator to maintain accuracy and reliability of the system. In addition, the self-adapting spread spectrum operation of the device improves system immunity to electromagnetic interference.
