The DS1087LU-255+T is a highly accurate low-power, voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) designed to enable sub-microsecond resolution timekeeping, jitter reduction and frequency synthesis applications. The device operates over a temperature range of –40 to 85°C and is offered in a temperature-compensated trimming mechanism operating over a frequency range of 5.5 to 16.5 MHz. Built to be a highly reliable VCO, the device can be used across a variety of applications, such as time-based applications that require precise frequency control, frequency synthesis applications and pulse width modulation (PWM) applications.
The DS1087LU-255+T uses the addition of high-flexibility, low-power VCOs such as the DS1087LU-255+T to maximize design efficiency and reduce complexity. The DS1087LU-255+T can be used in several applications, including telecom, industrial, and aerospace applications where amplifier stability and digital clock generation over a long period of time is needed. In digital clock applications, the frequency is generated through voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO) and is regulated by precision PLL loops. The signal is then divided down to lower frequency clocks, digital/analog signal converters, and signal processors.
The architecture of the DS1087LU-255+T supports a wide tuning range and low phase noise. The VCO operates in a range of 5.5 MHz to 16.5 MHz, with a range of 16.5 to 21.5 MHz available with the trim option. Furthermore, the VCO is augmented with a ratio frequency dividers, offsetting and mixing functions. The VC output is fedback to the input via a proportional-integral-differential (PID) loop, thereby providing precise frequency control and extremely low-noise operation. Furthermore, the device is also compatible with very small board areas, with a 52-pin DIP output.
