Delay lines, such as DS1100LZ-175+, are used in clock/timing applications to provide precise delays of signals. DS1100LZ-175+ delay lines are offered in two configurations – an asynchronous FIFO (First In First Out) configuration, and a synchronous SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) configuration. These delay lines can also be designed as Ultra Fast FIFO or Ultra Fast SRAM, depending on the applications and constraints.

The FIFO configuration can operate up to 250 megabits per second (Mbps) of complete data and clock rate. It is suitable for applications that need to be processed faster than standard FIFO delay lines. The FIFO configuration also ensures that data is delivered with no loss of data. The SRAM configuration on the other hand, can operate up to 25 Mbps, with that data being processed at a fraction of the speed of the FIFO configuration.

DS1100LZ-175+ delay lines are made up of an integrated circuit, which includes a single 168-bit shift register, a 16-bit memory block, false clocks, and control logic.

The shift register consists of 16 shift registers, with each stage providing 11 clock pulses. This is used to transmit the data and clock signals of the delay line. The 16-bit memory block is used to store the data which is to be delayed in the form of a serial stream. The false clock generator is used to ensure that the data is clocked out of the memory block at the same rate as the incoming data. The control logic ensures that all the components of the delay line are properly synchronized.
